Summer Dresses

We did a really great humanitarian project in Relief Society last week. We made 80 little dresses for African children. Most of them were made out of pillowcases. We just cut off the top, gathered the front, and put the bias tape around the sleeves. The side seams and the bottom were already finished. It was easy, but as you might guess, there weren't many cute prints. I opted to buy cute fabric, which required a little more sewing, but will hopefully make some little girls happy.

These are so cute. Would you teach me how to make some for my girls this summer?

Love them...I've seen these done before...even passed them out in Kenya. One thing I wish people knew about making these is that Africans are much more modest than we are...they won't even consider wearing dresses like this unless they have a shirt to go under it and it is long enough to go past their knees. Pass the word along the next time you hear of people doing these dresses.

These are wonderful. It was good to read Kristin's comments though. We are making 100 dresses for the Phillipines. I have made some peasant blouses to go under them as they are a sundress type.
